Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced and proactive Transport & Fleet Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management, compliance and availability of our specialist fleet.
Our Fleet
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a specialist fleet currently consisting of:
- 16 Vacuum Excavators
- 4 Flatbed Vehicles
- High Directional Drilling (HDD) equipment and associated plant
- Company support vehicles and associated fleet equipment
The Role
This is a hands-on management position requiring someone who can take ownership of the fleet and ensure our vehicles and equipment remain safe, compliant, maintained and operational.
Working closely with the Operations Director, Managing Director, maintenance team and operational crews, you will coordinate planned and reactive maintenance while ensuring vehicle downtime is kept to an absolute minimum.
The role will also have responsibility for ensuring the company's transport operation meets all relevant legal, regulatory and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of the company's transport and specialist fleet.
- Plan and coordinate vehicle servicing, inspections, MOTs and preventative maintenance.
- Manage vehicle defects from initial reporting through to repair and close-out.
- Liaise with manufacturers, dealerships, workshops and external maintenance providers.
- Monitor vehicle downtime and proactively chase repairs and parts to ensure vehicles return to operation as quickly as possible.
- Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance, inspection and compliance records.
- Ensure vehicles are presented and maintained to a high company standard.
- Monitor driver and vehicle compliance.
- Manage tachograph and drivers' hours compliance where applicable.
- Support the management of the company's Operator Licence requirements where applicable
- Maintain servicing, inspection, MOT, insurance and other fleet renewal schedules.
- Review maintenance and repair costs and challenge suppliers where appropriate.
- Monitor recurring vehicle defects and identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability.
- Coordinate breakdowns and emergency repairs.
- Work closely with operations to ensure sufficient vehicle availability to meet customer requirements.
- Support investigations relating to vehicle incidents, damage and defects.
- Help maintain high standards of health & safety, compliance and operational efficiency across the business.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, confident and comfortable taking ownership of a busy specialist fleet.
You should have previous experience within transport management, fleet management, HGV fleet maintenance or a similar operational transport role.
Experience within construction, utilities, haulage, plant hire, waste, drainage or specialist vehicles would be particularly beneficial.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous Transport or Fleet Management experience.
- Good understanding of HGV maintenance and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of Operator Licence responsibilities and DVSA requirements.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Experience managing vehicle servicing, inspections and defects.
- Confidence dealing with workshops, dealerships and manufacturers.
- Good IT and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to prioritise when dealing with breakdowns and operational pressures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with drivers, operators, management and suppliers.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.

What We Offer
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
Holiday: 28 days per year.
Pension: Company pension scheme.
Employment: Full-time, permanent position.
