Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and commercially focused Direct to Site Sales Advisor & Estimator to join our team. This is an office-based role responsible for developing sales directly with contractors, landscapers, house builders, and construction professionals while preparing accurate quotations and estimates for a wide range of landscaping and building materials.
The successful candidate will have experience within a builders' merchant, landscaping supplier, or construction materials environment and will be confident interpreting customer requirements, pricing projects, and converting enquiries into profitable sales.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ideally, you will have a background in builders' merchants, landscaping supplies, or construction materials and enjoy working in a customer-focused sales environment. You will be equally comfortable discussing project requirements with contractors, preparing detailed estimates, and proactively following up quotations to win business. With strong commercial awareness and excellent product knowledge, you will play a key role in driving profitable growth while delivering exceptional service to our trade customers. You will be required to:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, landscapers, groundworkers, developers, and other trade customers
- Respond promptly to customer enquiries via telephone, email, and online channels.
- Prepare accurate quotations and estimates from drawings, material schedules, and customer specifications
- Manage back sell opportunities with Builders Merchants
- Proactively follow up quotations to maximise conversion rates and secure new business
- Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell products to increase order value
- Manage customer accounts and develop long-term relationships to encourage repeat business. Liaise with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and product availability
- Work closely with purchasing, operations, and transport teams to ensure orders are fulfilled efficiently
- Maintain accurate customer and quotation records using the company's CRM and internal systems
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify new sales opportunities
- Achieve individual sales, margin, and customer service targets
- Provide expert product advice and technical guidance where appropriate
- Resolve customer queries and issues professionally and efficiently
- Carry out and additional ad-hoc duties as they arise.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience in a builders' merchant, landscaping merchant, construction materials supplier, or related industry
- Experience preparing estimates and quotations for construction or landscaping projects
- Strong knowledge of landscaping products, paving, aggregates, timber, fencing, drainage, or general building materials
- Proven ability to generate sales and convert quotations into orders
- Excellent customer service and relationship management skills
- Strong numerical and analytical abilities with excellent attention to detail
- Confident using Microsoft Office and CRM or merchant software
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using estimating or merchant ERP software
- Knowledge of construction drawings and material take-offs
- Experience working towards sales and margin targets

Desirable Criteria:
