Sorrento Support is a Support Services Provider based in Birmingham, working with Supported Housing Providers who house and support vulnerable residents including those with mental health, substance misuse, ex-offenders, financial problems, and physical health issues.
We are seeking experienced Support Workers to support residents weekly with building the life skills and stability to reach independence.
The role is flexible - perfect if you have parental responsibilities, or other commitments that would make a traditional 9-5 role difficult to manage.
For each resident you are allocated, you will be expected to deliver 1 hour of support each week, a wellbeing check, and update their support file via an easy to use mobile/web app.
We have four main expectations:
1) Support each resident each week (one support session around their support needs in accordance with their support plan, and one wellbeing check on a different day within the same week).
2) Document the support delivered/interactions had in accordance with our standards and expectations via an easy to use digital system.
3) Communicate with the Management team regularly, providing updates on residents, support sessions, and any issues or concerns.
4) Complete work on time, ensuring resident files are up-to-date and audit-ready, and tasks/actions set are responded to and completed on time.
Please note that this role is on a self-employed basis, therefore you will be expected to invoice for the work you complete.
Responsibilities of the role:
- Provide 1 hour of person-centred support to each resident, each week.
- Assist residents with their daily activities, including budgeting, medication management, mental health, shopping wisely, signposting, and developing independent living skills. No personal care is involved.
- Promote independence and empower residents to achieve their goals and aspirations - assisting residents to get closer to independent living.
- Create a safe and supportive environment for residents, maintaining their privacy and dignity.
- Build meaningful relationships with residents, offering emotional support, companionship, and signposting to external agencies.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare professionals and social workers, to ensure comprehensive support.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and records related to residents support and progress towards independent living.
- Adhere to the organisation's policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Support Worker in Supported Housing or in a similar role is essential.
- Own Smart Phone and mobile data is essential (not provided by the company).
- Experience in Supported Exempt Housing is ideal- having experience with Registered Social Landlord (RSL) paperwork/frameworks.
-Level 2 or above in Health & Social Care, or Adult Care is preferable.
-Willing to work on a self-employed basis is essential.
-Enhanced DBS check is required/ on the update service is essential - this can be applied for on behalf of the Support Worker.
- Excellent soft skills (empathy, patience, communication, emotional intelligence) are essential.
- Compassionate nature and genuine interest in supporting vulnerable individuals - essential.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively with Management on a remote basis - essential.
-Able to competently and confidently use technology including software and IT processes related to the job role - essential.
- Able to travel to multiple sites across Birmingham using own transport, and on short notice - essential.
- Access to a motor vehicle is essential.
Please be aware that this role is on a self employed contractor basis, therefore no expenses are reimbursed e.g. for travel.
