We’re Hiring: Games Master at Escapable Escape Rooms
Escapable Escape Rooms are looking to hire two new Games Masters to join our team.
We’re looking for confident, reliable and enthusiastic people who enjoy working with customers and helping create memorable experiences. As a Games Master, you’ll be part of the team delivering our award-winning escape room experiences, welcoming teams, delivering briefings, monitoring games, resetting rooms and making sure every group has a fun and memorable visit.
The role involves speaking to groups of different sizes, from small teams of 2 people up to larger groups of around 40, so confidence and a friendly attitude are important.
Applicants must be 18 or over.
This is a zero-hours role, best suited to someone looking for flexible part-time work rather than guaranteed full-time hours. Pay is National Minimum Wage.
Our busiest times are weekends, bank holidays and school holidays, so shifts will mainly be during these periods. Evening availability is also required.
Shifts can start from as early as 9:30am and may sometimes finish as late as 10:30pm, depending on bookings and game schedules.
The role may take place at either our Thornes Lane Wharf location, The Ridings Shopping Centre location, or both. The two sites are around a 15-minute walk from each other, or around a 5-minute drive depending on traffic. Driving can make things easier, but it is not a requirement as long as you can reliably travel to both sites when needed.
What the role involves:
- Welcoming customers and delivering game briefings
- Monitoring games and helping teams when needed
- Speaking confidently in front of groups
- Resetting escape rooms accurately between games
- Keeping a keen eye for detail
- Creating a fun and welcoming experience for customers
- Working independently during some shifts
- Working as part of a team on busier days
- Daily light cleaning and keeping areas presentable
- Resetting props and making sure rooms are ready for the next team
- Occasional lifting, carrying or helping with room changes and builds
This is an active role and involves moving around the rooms regularly. Some rooms may require the use of step stools or ladders when resetting certain parts of the game.
As escape rooms are live experiences, every shift can be slightly different. From time to time, you may need to use your initiative if something unexpected happens, such as a prop needing attention, a team needing extra guidance, or a room needing a quick reset adjustment. Full training and support will be provided so you feel confident handling these situations.
Basic DIY knowledge can be useful, as breakages can sometimes happen and may need a quick fix before the next game. However, this is not essential, and training will be provided.
Escape room experience, either from working in or playing escape rooms, is not essential, however it would be a great benefit. This role can be ideal for people who enjoy performing, acting, storytelling, puzzles, creativity, customer service, hospitality, tourism, events, or simply love escape rooms. That said, you do not need to fit into any one category we are open to anyone who feels they would be a good fit for the role.
Benefits of the role include:
- Flexible availability, with staff able to update their availability in advance around other commitments
- Full training provided
- A fun, unique and creative working environment
- The chance to work on award-winning escape room experiences
- No two shifts are exactly the same
- A great opportunity to build confidence speaking in front of groups
- Experience in customer service, live hosting and working independently
- A chance to learn how escape rooms work behind the scenes, including hosting, game flow, resets, props and puzzles
- The chance to be involved in new rooms, props, puzzles and game ideas
- Potential opportunities to test or play new games before they open to the public
- Working as part of a supportive small team
- Paid holiday entitlement accrued in line with statutory requirements
We do ask that availability is kept accurate and not changed once bookings or shifts have been arranged.
Full training will be provided in all areas, and you will not be left to work alone until we feel you are confident and ready.
To apply, please get in touch with your details, availability and any relevant experience.
Please make sure to include your availability for weekends, bank holidays, school holidays and evenings when applying.
