Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Fitter / Assembler to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for building, fitting, and assembling bespoke conveyor systems and material handling equipment from engineering drawings. You will work with structural steelwork, drive systems, rollers, and pneumatic components to deliver high-quality, fully tested machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Read Schematics: Interpret technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and parts lists accurately.
- Build Sub-Assemblies: Construct sub-assemblies including drive pods, roller beds, and tensioning units.
- Fit Components: Install mechanical parts like shafts, bearings, gearboxes, motors, sprockets, and chains.
- Align Tracking: Set, align, and tension conveyor belts, modular chains, and tracking mechanisms.
- Pneumatics Assembly: Mount and pipe up pneumatic cylinders, valves, and air lines.
- Use Tools Safely: Operate hand tools, power tools, drills, grinders, and precision measuring gear.
- Quality Inspection: Use Vernier calipers and gauges to verify dimensional tolerances and clearances.
- Test Machinery: Run completed conveyor units to inspect for smooth movement, vibration, and noise.
- Modify Material: Perform minor manual adjustments, drilling, or tapping to achieve a precise component fit.
- Maintain Safety: Keep a clean workstation and strictly adhere to safe lifting and manufacturing practices.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience in machinery assembly, machine building, or manufacturing.
- Sector Knowledge: Direct experience with conveyor systems, automated production lines, or material handling is highly desirable.
- Education: Recognized apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficient at reading complex engineering layout drawings and bills of materials (BOM).
- Physical Fitness: Capable of manual handling, standing for long periods, and lifting heavy components safely.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with fabricators, welders, and electrical assembly teams.
Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
