Job Description
The Transport Planner is responsible for coordinating all incoming and outgoing transport movements at the Kettering facility. The role works closely with Production, Operations, Data Analytics, Hauliers, Customers, and Third-Party Storage Sites to ensure materials are moved efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with operational requirements.
This is a fast-paced position requiring excellent organisation, accuracy, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage changing priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Planning
- Coordinate inbound and outbound transport movements.
- Attend daily planning meetings to understand production requirements.
- Plan transport requirements based on production levels, stock availability, and storage capacity.
- Forward schedule transport requirements to ensure operational efficiency.
- Redirect trailers to alternative storage facilities when required.
- Review and amend transport schedules in response to operational changes.
- Liaise with third-party storage sites regarding capacity availability.
- Manage relationships with haulage providers.
- Record and monitor transport costs accurately.
- Support export planning and scheduling activities.
- Provide transport updates during weekly planning meetings.
- Work with the Data Analyst to ensure accurate goods in/goods out information.
Account Management
- Manage transport requests for internal and external customers.
- Arrange collections and deliveries within agreed service levels.
- Resolve transport issues and escalate where necessary.
- Organise haulage requirements for customers and business operations.
- Maintain excellent customer service standards.
