The Role
This is a fantastic opening for a first line engineer eager to join a well-established technical department. The position encompasses comprehensive support for internal IT systems, spanning desktop and server troubleshooting, as well as hardware replacement. It’s particularly suited to individuals at the beginning of their IT careers who are keen to broaden their expertise while working alongside a skilled and approachable team of engineers. Additionally, there are opportunities to specialise in technologies or transition into roles with a greater emphasis on networking or security, allowing for ongoing professional development and growth within the department.
The Day Job
- Ticketing Systems: Experience logging, managing, and resolving incidents in IT Service Management (ITSM) tools
- Software & Hardware: Troubleshooting Microsoft 365 (Office, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams), Active Directory basics (password resets, user creation), and printer/peripheral support.
- Support the configuration and installation of hardware within offices and datacentres
- Working with junior engineers on projects and support requests
- Performing upgrades and updates to existing hardware and software platforms
- Management of internal and hosted software platforms such as Azure/365
- Investigating system alerts and suggesting and implementing fixes as needed
- Escalating priority issues to senior engineers
- Networking: Basic understanding of IP addresses, routers, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills, experience with ticketing systems, and the ability to perform tasks like password resets and user setups
We’d Like to Speak to You If
You have at least one year’s experience in an IT support role and a genuine passion for technology, but not essential. Your hands-on expertise covers Microsoft desktop and server operating systems, laptop hardware, Dell and HP server hardware, as well as Azure or 365 management. You also possess a solid understanding of networking components, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP. Your excellent time management skills enable you to handle varied workloads both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. In addition, you have either directly managed or played a significant role in software or hardware deployment projects.
We’ll Love You If
- Experience of VMware ESXi or similar hypervisor’s
- Hands on firewall and network switching experience (NAT rules / VLANS)
- Basic linux use and management
- Any scripting skills (Python, C, PHP)
- Experience within datacenter environments
- Any experience with databases such as MSSQL/Postgres/MySQL/Maria
