Salary: £62,746 or £64,246 per annum (depending on certificates held) plus additional benefits

Working Pattern: Rotational roster dependent on vessel assignment

At CalMac, our ferries are more than vessels, they're lifeline services connecting Scotland's island and coastal communities. We're looking for qualified Third Engineers to join our fleet and play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of our vessels.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you'll undertake engine room watchkeeping duties, support planned maintenance activities and assist with breakdown repairs. Working alongside a dedicated engineering team, you'll help maintain the high standards of safety, reliability and operational performance our customers and communities depend on every day.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Third Engineer, you'll support the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department and assist in ensuring all machinery and systems are maintained and operated safely and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:

Observing the Chief Engineer's standing orders at all times
- Following the Chief Engineer's instructions regarding watchkeeping duties, planned maintenance and breakdown repair work
- Working under the supervision of the Chief Engineer while carrying out engineering duties
- Maintaining an efficient engine room watch and reporting operational issues to the Chief Engineer
- Identifying and resolving engineering problems where appropriate and within your capabilities
- Recording details of maintenance activities, repairs and operational work undertaken and ensuring these are brought to the Chief Engineer's attention
- Recording spare parts usage and advising the Chief Engineer of stock levels and replenishment requirements
- Ensuring all engineering work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with Engineering Department procedures
- Supervising Engine Room Ratings when required
- Contributing to a strong culture of safety and compliance throughout the vessel
- Undertaking any other duties reasonably required by the Chief Engineer
What We're Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Certification
Applicants must hold:

STCW V/3 Basic and/or Advanced Training Certificate for Ships Subject to the IGF Code (for service on MGO/LNG dual-fuel vessels)
- STCW III/1 Engineering Officer of the Watch Unlimited Certificate of Competency*
- Valid ENG1 Medical Certificate
- STCW Security Awareness Certificate
Applicants should also possess valid STCW 2010 Basic Safety Training certification in:

Personal Survival Techniques
- Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting
- Elementary First Aid
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities
In addition, Third Engineers must hold:

Advanced Fire Fighting
- Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats
Additional Essential Training
CalMac requires successful applicants to hold certain certification specific to our fleet. These certificates must be completed after accepting a job offer and before joining a vessel if not already held.

Desirable Skills & Experience

Higher Certificate of Competency
- Experience acting up in a higher engineering grade
- A strong safety focus and familiarity with CoSWP, Permit to Work and risk assessment processes
- Strong awareness of the wider business environment and operational requirements
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to maintain a positive and professional customer interface
- A proactive, positive and solutions-focused approach to work
