Telematics Data Specialist – Policy Insights & Risk Analysis
About iTelematiX
iTelematiX is a UK-based telematics technology company providing Smartbox devices and data-driven risk solutions to motor insurers.
Our technology helps young drivers reduce the cost of their insurance by demonstrating safe driving behaviour, while helping insurers better understand and manage risk.
By collecting and analysing real-world driving data, we help insurers improve policyholder outcomes, encourage safer driving habits, and gain deeper insight into driver behaviour.
Our systems, hardware, and operational processes have all been developed in-house, giving us a unique opportunity to combine technology, data, and practical insurance insight.
The Purpose of the Role
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analysing data, investigating problems, and understanding the reasons behind patterns and behaviours.
You will work with telematics data to identify trends, anomalies, and risk indicators, while also investigating individual policyholder cases where driving behaviour, data quality, or system performance requires deeper analysis.
This is not simply a reporting role. We are looking for someone who enjoys asking "why?", exploring problems from different angles, and turning information into meaningful insight.
Your work will contribute directly to:
- Reducing the cost of driving for young drivers
- Improving the policyholder experience
- Reducing the likelihood of accidents
- Reducing claim frequency
- Developing positive feedback loops that help drivers become safer and more confident on the road
- Improving understanding of telematics-derived risk and behavioural outcomes
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Pattern Recognition
- Analyse telematics datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in driving behaviour
- Investigate behavioural indicators that may influence risk, claims, or policy outcomes
- Produce meaningful analysis that supports operational, technical, and business decision-making
- Support the development of reporting, monitoring, and analytical processes
Case Investigation & Problem Solving
- Review individual policyholder cases where unusual driving behaviour, data anomalies, or technical issues have been identified
- Investigate the root causes of issues and work with colleagues to understand and resolve them
- Develop a practical understanding of how telematics data behaves in real-world situations
- Translate technical findings into clear conclusions and recommendations
Risk & Behavioural Insight
- Develop an understanding of the relationship between driver behaviour and risk
- Identify emerging trends and behavioural patterns within the policyholder portfolio
- Support internal understanding of claims, compliance, and telematics-related risk factors
- Contribute ideas and observations that improve business understanding and decision-making
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with technical, operational, and customer-facing teams
- Support the ongoing improvement of internal systems, processes, and reporting
- Contribute to discussions around automation, analytics, machine learning, and future product development
- Build knowledge of telematics technology, insurance operations, and behavioural analysis over time
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with data using Excel or similar tools
- Ability to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within data
- Strong attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to investigate problems logically and methodically
Desirable
- A degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Experience in data analysis, reporting, or investigative work
- Exposure to SQL, Python, Power BI, or similar analytical tools
- An interest in machine learning, behavioural modelling, or AI concepts
- Experience within telematics, insurance, transport, logistics, or technology environments
About You
You are naturally curious and enjoy understanding why things happen rather than simply identifying that they have happened.
You are comfortable working with data, investigating problems, and exploring different explanations before reaching conclusions.
You enjoy learning, can work independently when required, and are willing to develop a deep understanding of telematics, driver behaviour, and insurance-related outcomes.
Most importantly, you have the curiosity and persistence to keep asking questions until you understand the answer.
Why Join iTelematiX?
At iTelematiX, you will work with real-world telematics data that directly influences driver safety, risk management, and insurance outcomes.
You will be part of a small team where your work can have a visible impact, with opportunities to contribute across data analysis, investigation, technology, and future platform development.
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine analytical thinking with practical problem-solving in a growing technology business.
