Location: Officers’ Mess/Sergeants’ Mess, Somme Barracks, DL9 4LD
Pay rate: £13.83 per hour (£28,864.87 per annum)
Contract type: Permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days over 7 (includes some weekends)
Shift times: Earlies/Lates - alternate weeks. Earlies 06:45 – 13:15, Lates 14:30 – 21:00 with occasional absence cover and functions
As a Sous Chef at Somme Barracks, you'll be part of a professional catering team serving military personnel within the UK's largest Army garrison. Combining hands-on cooking with kitchen leadership, you'll help deliver high-quality meals, support the development of your team, and play a vital role in creating an outstanding dining experience in a rewarding and purpose-driven environment.
To be eligible for this role, due to the sector requirements: you must have lived in the UK for the past 3 years and have a legal right to work and must be able to pass full security vetting and DBS checks.

What you’ll do:

Collaborating with a team of chefs and kitchen assistants, delivering around 1000 meals, 3 times a day. You will be supervising in the kitchen unit.

You will be responsible for the preparation of basic quality foods within a set pre-ordered menu.

Ensuring the kitchen is clean and tidy, and all stock checks are conducted correctly.

Completing all relevant paperwork and due diligence forms.

Manage customer complaints in a professional manner.

Undertake relevant training as required.
What we’re looking for:

Must have resided in the UK for the past 3 years and have legal right to work.

Must be able to pass full security vetting and DBS checks.

Previous supervisory experience.

Applicants must have one of the following qualifications or equivalent:

BSC (Catering), MHCIM, HND, City & Guilds 706/1 and 2, NVQ level 2 and 3
- Knowledge of health and safety
- CIEH level 2 qualification or equivalent
