WORKING HOURS: Monday to Thursday 8.00am to 4.30pm and Friday 8.00am to 2.00pm
OVERTIME: Regular Overtime (at 1.5 rate and 2.0 rate)

Purpose of the Role
The Forklift Driver / Materials & Stores Operative plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient flow of materials throughout the manufacturing process. The role is responsible for receiving and storing raw materials, maintaining accurate stock records, supplying production with materials before they are required, controlling the movement of work in progress (WIP), and preparing finished goods for despatch.
Success in this role is measured by ensuring production never waits for materials, stock records remain accurate, deliveries are processed efficiently, and finished goods are prepared safely and correctly for despatch.
Key Responsibilities
Goods In
- Safely unload deliveries of raw materials using a Counterbalance Forklift Truck.
- Inspect incoming deliveries for quantity, quality and any visible damage.
- Check deliveries against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Book materials into the Company's ERP system accurately and on the day of receipt.
- Label and store materials in the correct warehouse locations.
- Report any shortages, damage or discrepancies immediately.
Raw Material Supply
- Ensure production machines are supplied with the correct raw materials before operators complete their current jobs.
- Work proactively to minimise machine downtime caused by unavailable materials.
- Plan and prioritise material movements in line with the production schedule.
- Communicate with Production Operators and Supervisors to ensure material requirements are understood and supplied in advance.
- Return unused raw materials to stock and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Monitor material availability and communicate shortages promptly.
Work in Progress (WIP)
- Move work in progress safely and efficiently between departments.
- Ensure all WIP remains correctly identified and stored in designated locations.
- Maintain clear material traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
- Support production by ensuring materials are always available where and when they are required.
Despatch Preparation
- Wrap pallets securely for despatch to third-party coaters and customer sites.
- Produce and apply accurate packing labels and delivery identification.
- Ensure finished goods are protected to prevent damage during transportation.
- Prepare loads in accordance with customer and carrier requirements.
- Support the safe and efficient loading of vehicles.
- Ensure all pallets are wrapped, labelled and presented to a high standard before collection.
Stock Control
- Maintain accurate stock records at all times.
- Carry out stock movements and inventory transactions accurately.
- Support periodic stock counts and investigations into stock discrepancies.
- Maintain organised storage locations and good warehouse discipline.
Health & Safety
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and in accordance with Company procedures.
- Complete daily forklift inspections and report defects immediately.
- Maintain safe working areas and excellent housekeeping standards throughout the warehouse and factory.
- Follow all Company Health & Safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
- Report hazards, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
General Responsibilities
- Work closely with Production, Purchasing and Logistics teams to ensure materials flow efficiently throughout the business.
- Support the implementation and ongoing use of Microsoft Business Central and associated manufacturing systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, reduce waste and improve material flow.
- Build positive working relationships across all departments.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence.
- Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or warehouse environment.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise work effectively in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
- Basic IT skills and confidence using ERP or stock control systems.
- Good communication skills with the confidence to liaise effectively with Production Operators, Supervisors and office staff.
- Ability to work independently whilst supporting the wider production team.
Desirable
- Experience within sheet metal, engineering or manufacturing industries.
- Experience using Microsoft Business Central or similar ERP systems.
- Experience using handheld barcode scanners or warehouse management systems.
- First Aid qualification.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
