This is a Term Time Only - One Year Fixed Contract
The Catering Assistant is responsible for supporting the Centre Lead in ensuring that the food prepared and served at Mr Bee’s is healthy and nutritious. They are responsible for developing menus, planning meals, organising healthy eating activities with the children and organisation and/or preparation of all food served in their centre.
Catering Assistant works closely with the Centre Lead and the childcare team to ensure that everything they do meets the standards set by Mr Bee’s, external agencies and local healthy eating and related initiatives and the running of associated groups and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Main Tasks
· Keep the kitchen clean and safe environment adhering to internal and external requirements (Environmental Health/EYFS requirements)
· Ensure good practice outlined in the Safer Food Better Business guidance is followed, reviewed with the Centre Lead, associated records completed and stored in line with Mr Bee’s policy and procedures.
· Encourage and model behaviour which is appropriate in a child environment, being professional at all times
· Preparation and cooking enough age appropriate food for all the children on a daily basis with minimum wastage including meals and snack.
· Take responsibility to make sure all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to the teams
· Work in co-operation and partnership with the Centre Lead, Childcare team and parents to encourage a healthy and nutritious diet, and promote initiatives around dental hygiene
· Support the Senior Early Years Professional and Senior Finance Officer in meeting budgetary requirements
· Use nominated suppliers and ensure all deliveries are accurate and record keeping is kept up to date
· Support with other activities with the nursery events, for example, BBQ’s, Fetes, staff meetings, and children’s food tech activities
· Support the Centre Lead and Childcare team to ensure a good or better OFSTED inspection outcome
· Demonstrate a proactive approach using your initiative and showing resilience to take responsibility with a can do attitude.
· Undertaking basic first aid training where appropriate to enable response to any minor medical accidents, reporting the same to the Senior Management Team (SMT).
· Design and plan healthy, diverse, tasty weekly menus in liaison with the Centre Lead.
· Assist the Finance Officer and Senior EYP in maintaining organisation budgets by sharing information on best price quality foods.
· Store and rotating stock for the centre.
