Role Overview
The Business Development Manager is responsible for generating sustainable business growth by developing client relationships, securing new opportunities, supporting winning bids, and strengthening the Company's position within its target markets.
This role is ideally suited to a motivated and commercially focused individual who can build strong relationships, identify opportunities, and help drive the continued growth of Principal Projx across its key sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Business Growth – Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities aligned with the Company's growth strategy.
- Build Client Relationships – Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, acting as a trusted point of contact.
- Manage Sales Pipeline – Create, monitor, and report on a robust pipeline of opportunities from lead generation through to contract award.
- Support Bids and Proposals – Coordinate and contribute to tender submissions, proposals, framework applications, and quotations.
- Develop Strategic Partnerships – Establish relationships with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and industry partners to support collaborative growth.
- Promote the Business – Represent the Company at client meetings, networking events, industry conferences, and marketing activities.
- Monitor Market Opportunities – Track industry trends, client investment plans, procurement pipelines, and competitor activity.
- Collaborate with Delivery Teams – Work closely with project, design, and technical teams to identify opportunities and develop winning solutions.
- Maintain CRM and Reporting – Keep accurate records of client interactions, opportunities, forecasts, and business development performance metrics.
- Contribute to Strategic Planning – Provide market intelligence and commercial insight to support the Company's long-term growth objectives.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Business Development, Sales, Commercial, or Client Relationship role.
- Proven track record of winning new business and growing client accounts.
- Experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, utilities, aviation, logistics, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of tendering and bid processes.
- Experience managing sales pipelines and CRM systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
- Commercially aware with the ability to identify and develop opportunities.
- Self-motivated with a proactive and results-driven mindset.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Engineering, Construction, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Experience with public sector procurement frameworks.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and project delivery environments.
- Existing network within aviation, infrastructure, utilities, or industrial sectors.
- Membership of a relevant professional body or industry association.
