Clarke & Wright is a wills and estate planning firm. We run free public seminars for people planning their retirement and their family's future - 50 to 150 guests a session, two sessions a day, at good hotels and venues.
Our founder currently presents every one of them. We are expanding, and we are looking for someone to take the stage across the Home Counties, Kent, Surrey and East Anglia.
The role
- Present our seminar on wills, trusts and estate planning, twice in a day, to audiences of 50 to 150
- Each session runs two hours: 45 minutes of talk, a 15 minute break, 45 minutes of talk, then 15 minutes of Q&A led by our founder. Short one to two minute films play within the talk every five to ten minutes, so you are working with the material rather than talking without pause
- Roughly one event a week during the season, always in your own region - St Albans, Berkhamsted, Hitchin, Bishops Stortford, Ware, Aylesbury, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Maidstone, Guildford, Esher, Reigate, Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Colchester and Brentwood
- Almost every event is within 70 miles of home - this is a day-trip job, not a touring one
- Work alongside the local adviser, who handles the technical questions and the follow-up appointments
- Between events: visit clients at home to supervise document signing and act as a witness, scout new venues, and prepare for upcoming events
This is not a legal job. You are not expected to give advice or answer technical questions - our founder takes the Q&A. You need to deliver a proven talk with warmth and authority to an audience mostly in their sixties and seventies who are thinking about their families.
Training
This is a serious craft and we train properly. Expect a significant period of training before you present a full event alone:
- Attending events in your region and learning the room
- Delivering sections of the talk with our founder present
- Presenting full sessions with him in the room, reviewing the recording with him afterwards
- Going solo once your results are consistently at or above our benchmark
You are paid in full from day one. We will not put you in front of a room before you are ready, and nobody is released on a timetable - only on results.
Who we are looking for
- You can hold a room of 70 to 150 people for two hours. Whatever you have done before - training, teaching, broadcasting, sales, acting, ministry, lecturing - you are comfortable and compelling in front of an audience that size
- Warm and credible with an older audience. Our guests are discussing their families and their deaths; slickness works against you here
- Smart appearance. Our founder presents in a suit and tie, and you would be expected to dress in smart business wear
- Reliable, and happy to work to a proven script and help improve it
- Full driving licence and a modern, reliable car - you will be visiting clients as well as venues
- Willing to undergo a Basic DBS check (we pay)
- Comfortable being measured. We track how each session performs, and we will talk about your numbers openly
No legal or financial qualifications are needed. Genuine presenting ability is the whole job.
What we offer
- £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience, plus a performance bonus linked to how your sessions convert
- Home-based, working your own region - almost every event a day trip
- One event a week in season; no weekends, no evenings
- Genuine seasonal breaks: no events late July through August, or mid-December to mid-January
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Mileage and expenses paid
- Full training and ongoing coaching from the person who built the talk
