Healthcare Pharmacy Assistant / Counter Assistant

Salary: £12.21 per hour
Hours: Full-time or Part-time (hours and days negotiable)

The Role
We are looking for a Healthcare Pharmacy Assistant / Counter Assistant to join our friendly team. Previous pharmacy experience is preferred, but full training can be provided for the right candidate with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
You will be the first point of contact for customers, helping to create a welcoming, professional, and supportive pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcoming customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Receiving prescriptions and ensuring timely transfer to the dispensary
- Answering and handling telephone queries appropriately
- Responding to customer symptoms using agreed protocols and referring to the pharmacist when needed
- Recommending suitable over-the-counter products and providing advice for minor ailments
- Ensuring the safe handover of dispensed medicines to patients or representatives
- Identifying medicine-related queries or concerns and escalating them to the Responsible Pharmacist
- Maintaining safe and appropriate storage of medicines
- Assisting with stock control and stock management
- Supporting patient engagement with pharmacy services where appropriate
- Keeping the pharmacy clean, tidy, and professional at all times
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of OTC medicines and minor ailments through training and resources
- Supporting the pharmacist with reasonable duties to ensure high-quality pharmaceutical care
About You
- Warm, friendly, and professional with a strong customer focus
- Empathetic and tactful, with excellent communication skills
- Well organised with good time management
- A team player who can also work independently when required
- Willing to learn and undertake ongoing training
- Working towards, willing to complete, or already completed an accredited Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) qualification
- Retail experience is desirable but not essential
- Confident with money handling, tills, and basic record keeping
Hours & Schedule
- 8-hour shifts
- Monday–Friday: 9:00am–6:30pm
- Saturday: 9:00am–4:00pm
- Hours and days are negotiable
