Mortuary Technician
Location: In Person
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Salary: £24,758 - £28,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Mortuary Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional who takes pride in delivering the highest standards of deceased care while maintaining dignity, professionalism and compliance with industry best practice.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience and be confident working independently within a busy mortuary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, wash, disinfect, dress and present the deceased with the utmost dignity and respect.
- Complete first-call admissions, identification procedures, final checks and accurate documentation.
- Maintain detailed electronic records throughout every stage of the deceased care process.
- Conduct daily condition checks and maintain accurate reporting.
- Prepare the deceased in accordance with funeral schedules, chapel visits and family requirements.
- Take handprints, locks of hair and other keepsakes when requested.
- Undertake transfers, collections and the release of the deceased, including sensitive collections from private residences during working hours.
- Communicate professionally with funeral colleagues regarding presentation, condition and any technical considerations.
- Maintain strict infection prevention and control procedures, ensuring all instruments, equipment and work areas are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after use.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, mortuary policies and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe mortuary environment at all times.
- Assist with the safe manual handling and movement of the deceased.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Previous experience working within a mortuary environment.
- Excellent knowledge of infection prevention and deceased care procedures.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- A calm, compassionate and professional approach when handling sensitive situations.
- Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate electronic records.
- A full, clean UK driving licence (essential).
- Good physical fitness, including the ability to undertake manual handling tasks.
