Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Tutor to join the teaching team, and support the Business School this Autumn 2026.
- Personal and Academic Skills for Success (PASS)
- Up to 3 hours per week for 9 weeks
- Autumn Term teaching starts w/c 5 October 2026
You will have knowledge of academic writing and research skills (eg. literature research, argument development, essay writing, critical thinking and discussion) and experience of teaching and supporting students in relevant courses and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).
As Associate Tutor, you will play a key role in supporting students’ academic development by teaching on the Personal and Academic Skills for Success (PASS) module, a foundational module designed to equip students with the core skills required for successful study at university.
You will guide students in developing academic writing, literature research, argument construction, and critical discussion, helping them build confidence and capability as they progress through their degree.
To succeed in the role, you will bring:
- At least a Master degree in Business and Management related subjects or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Advanced experience in teaching and supporting students on academic and research skills
You will be confident in designing and delivering learning activities that enable students to engage with academic literature, evaluate evidence, and communicate effectively in written work. Please refer to the person specification for further selection criteria.

Contract

Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £61.39 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at x2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
