Job Description
Our client, a leading Tier 1 automotive manufacturer, is seeking an experienced CNC Technician / Process Engineer to join their manufacturing team at their Telford facility.
This role requires a skilled CNC professional with strong experience in high-speed machining of aluminium cast components on multi-axis machines. Reporting to the CNC Senior Setter and supporting the Production Supervisor, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining production efficiency, improving machining processes, and supporting the development of CNC operators across the shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily technical support to CNC production operations.
- Operate and support CNC machines, including fault finding, diagnostics, and performance monitoring.
- Maintain hydraulic fixture operation, clamping repeatability, and machining alignment to castings.
- Change cutting tools, monitor tool life, and investigate tool failures.
- Monitor part quality and dimensional data, adjusting offsets to maintain process capability.
- Prove new machining programs and support the commissioning of new fixtures and cutting tools.
- Develop and maintain process documentation and assist in the creation of Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).
- Establish and maintain machining procedures and operational standards.
- Drive TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and 5S initiatives across the department.
- Train, mentor, and support CNC setters and operators to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Perform machining troubleshooting and continuous process improvements.
- Promote and maintain Health, Safety and Environmental standards across the department and plant.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the Process Engineering leadership team.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Apprentice-trained or relevant formal engineering qualification.
- Proven experience setting CNC machines within a Just-In-Time (JIT) production environment.
- Experience with high-speed 5-axis machining of aluminium cast components.
- Strong troubleshooting and structured problem-solving skills.
- Experience programming using G & M codes (Siemens controllers preferred).
- Strong understanding of tooling and fixture design principles.
- Experience delivering training or mentoring operators and technicians.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within the aluminium casting sector.
- ABB robot operation and programming experience.
- Knowledge of straightening processes and presses.
- Experience implementing 5S improvements within production environments.
