Head of Construction & Apprenticeships Wanted at Salt College!
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

Salt College is seeking an ambitious and passionate Head of Construction & Apprenticeships to lead and develop our growing department, ensuring outstanding outcomes for learners, apprentices, and employers.
The Role:
As Head of Department, you will play a key leadership role in driving excellence across both our study programmes and apprenticeship provision.
You will:
- Lead, manage, and develop the Construction & Apprenticeships department
- Design, implement, and continually improve the construction curriculum for study programmes (16+)
- Take responsibility for the quality of apprenticeship delivery, including monitoring and improving workplace reviews
- Ensure all programmes meet industry standards, awarding body requirements, and employer needs
- Line manage and support a team of:
- Apprenticeship Assessors & Trainers
- Study Programme Lecturers & Trainers
- Drive high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across all provision
- Support learners aged 16+ including apprentices, adult learners, and school leavers
- Champion inclusive practice, supporting learners with SEND and EHCPs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers and industry partners
- Monitor performance, quality assurance, and learner outcomes
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualified in a construction trade (minimum Level 2 – e.g. Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.)
- Qualified Teacher with either DET, DTLLS or QTLS
- Qualified Assessor and Verifier or willing to work towards
- Significant industry experience within construction
- Experience delivering or managing construction training or apprenticeships
- Strong understanding of apprenticeship standards and workplace assessments
- Proven experience managing or leading a team (or readiness to step into leadership)
- Experience with curriculum design and quality improvement
- Qualified Lecturer (or working towards) / QTLS desirable
- Qualified Assessor (or willingness to gain)
- Experience supporting students with SEND needs (ADHD, Autism, etc.)
- Passion for education, leadership, and learner success

- Lecturer within an FE college : 3 years (preferred)
- Training and Assessing SEND learners: 3 years (preferred)
- Qualified plumbing/ Electrical lecturer : 1 year (preferred)
- Apprenticeship Training: 2 years (required)
- Teaching and Training in a College: 2 years (required)
Licence/Certification:
- Assessor qualification (preferred)
- DET/DTLLS/QTLS (preferred)
- Verifiers Qualification (preferred)
