About the Role
RACO is looking for an experienced and motivated Legal Compliance Manager to join our expanding compliance team.
This is a client-facing role where you will be employed by RACO and provide compliance support to a portfolio of law firms across England and Wales. You will work closely with Partners, COLPs, COFAs, MLROs and senior management teams, delivering practical compliance advice and helping firms meet their regulatory obligations.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in legal compliance, a sound understanding of the SRA Standards and Regulations, Anti-Money Laundering legislation, and risk management within legal practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the dedicated Legal Compliance Manager for a portfolio of law firms.
- Provide day-to-day compliance advice on SRA regulatory requirements and best practice.
- Assist firms in maintaining compliance with the SRA Standards and Regulations.
- Carry out file reviews, compliance audits and office visits both remotely and on-site.
- Review and update compliance policies, procedures and risk assessments.
- Support firms with AML compliance, including CDD, Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Source of Funds and Source of Wealth enquiries.
- Assist COLPs, COFAs and MLROs with regulatory responsibilities and compliance queries.
- Deliver compliance and AML training to clients where required.
- Monitor regulatory updates and communicate changes to clients.
- Assist with SRA investigations, regulatory inspections and reporting obligations where appropriate.
- Prepare written audit reports and action plans.
- Maintain accurate client records and compliance documentation.
- Build strong relationships with clients, providing practical and commercial compliance solutions.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience in legal compliance within a law firm or legal compliance consultancy.
- Excellent knowledge of:
- SRA Standards and Regulations
- Money Laundering Regulations
- AML, CDD, EDD, Source of Funds and Source of Wealth requirements
- Experience conducting compliance audits and file reviews.
- Strong understanding of law firm risk management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise competing deadlines.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client offices when required.
Desirable
- Previous experience working as a COLP, COFA, MLRO or Deputy MLRO.
- Experience delivering AML or legal compliance training.
- Knowledge of Lexcel, CQS or other quality standards.
- Experience supporting firms through SRA inspections or regulatory visits.
- Relevant compliance or legal qualifications.
Pay: Up to £45,000.00 per year
