Willowsbrook Pharmacy is a newly established community pharmacy dedicated to providing excellent patient care, combining NHS pharmacy services with a strong range of private services. We are building a team that puts patients first, works efficiently, and helps grow both our NHS contract work and our private service offering.
Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced, reliable Dispensing Assistant to join our pharmacy team from launch. You will play a key role in the accurate and efficient dispensing of prescriptions, supporting the Pharmacist and wider team, and actively promoting NHS and private services to patients to help establish the pharmacy within the local community.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing & Prescription Processing
- Accurately dispense prescription items in line with SOPs, legal requirements, and pharmacy policy
- Prepare, label, and check medication for accuracy prior to final Pharmacist check
- Manage prescription workflow, including receiving, processing (EPS and paper), and preparing prescriptions for collection or delivery
- Maintain accurate records in the Pharmacy Management System (PMR)
- Handle controlled drugs and other restricted medicines in accordance with legislation and SOPs
- Manage stock control, ordering, rotation, and dealing with out-of-stock items
- Support with medicines waste, returns, and disposal procedures
NHS Services
- Support delivery of NHS services such as the New Medicine Service (NMS), Medicines Use Review (MUR)/Structured Medication Review (SMR), Discharge Medicines Service, Pharmacy First, and flu/vaccination clinics where applicable
- Proactively identify and refer eligible patients for NHS services
- Ensure accurate recording and claiming of NHS service activity
Private Services
- Confidently and proactively promote the pharmacy's private services (e.g. private consultations, travel clinic, weight management, private prescriptions, health checks, or other services offered) to patients
- Support patients in understanding the private services available and how they can benefit
- Contribute to achieving service uptake targets set by management
Customer Service & General Duties
- Deliver a friendly, professional, and helpful service to all patients and customers
- Handle patient queries, escalating clinical questions to the Pharmacist as appropriate
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the pharmacy, including opening/closing procedures
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised dispensary and shop floor
- Assist with till operations and over-the-counter (OTC) sales where required
- Uphold patient confidentiality and information governance standards at all times
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Dispensing Assistant in a community pharmacy setting
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services, or working towards it
- Sound knowledge of dispensing processes, PMR systems, and pharmacy law
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy under time pressure
- Excellent communication skills and a confident, patient-facing manner
- A proactive, can-do attitude — comfortable promoting services and identifying opportunities to help patients
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
- Basic IT literacy (PMR systems, Microsoft Office/Outlook)
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or working towards)
- Experience with NHS services such as NMS, Pharmacy First, or vaccination services
- Experience promoting or delivering private pharmacy services
- Experience opening or helping establish a new pharmacy or branch
