Engineering Trainer / Assessor

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful Work Based Learning team, supporting apprentices as they progress through their engineering qualifications and launch rewarding careers within the industry.
The Role
As an Engineering Trainer / Assessor, you will support apprentices throughout their learning journey by delivering engaging training, providing expert coaching and carrying out workplace assessments. Working closely with employers, you will ensure every learner develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to successfully complete their apprenticeship and achieve the highest possible End Point Assessment grade.
This varied role combines classroom delivery, workplace visits and one-to-one mentoring, allowing you to make a genuine difference to the development of future engineering professionals.
You will work with apprentices completing programmes including:
- Engineering Manufacturing Technician Level 4
- Machining Level 3
- Mechatronics Level 3
- Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Level 3
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of apprentices, supporting them from enrolment through to successful completion.
- Deliver engaging training sessions in both classroom and workplace settings.
- Carry out workplace assessments and provide constructive feedback to support learner progress.
- Develop personalised learning plans based on each apprentice's individual needs.
- Prepare apprentices for Gateway and End Point Assessment (EPA).
- Monitor progress through regular reviews with both apprentices and employers.
- Work closely with employers to ensure apprentices gain meaningful on and off-the-job learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate learner records and ensure compliance with awarding body requirements.
- Support apprentice recruitment through interviews, initial assessments and employer engagement.
- Promote high standards of health and safety, equality, diversity and safeguarding throughout all aspects of the role.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers while supporting the continued growth of the apprenticeship provision.
About You
We are looking for someone with industry knowledge, excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting learners to succeed.
Essential Experience
- Experience working within vocational qualification or apprenticeship programmes.
- Experience delivering training and/or assessing learners within Further Education or a training environment.
- Experience using e-Portfolio systems.
- Experience building positive working relationships with employers.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation relevant to engineering.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively manage a varied workload.
- Confident working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to motivate, coach and influence learners.
- Good IT skills.
Qualifications
- Level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (essential).
- Relevant vocational CPD (essential).
- Level 3 TAQA, A1 or equivalent Assessing Qualification (desirable).
- Level 3 Internal Quality Assurance Qualification (desirable).
Please note: This position involves regular travel to employer sites. Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
