Daws Heath Timber Ltd is a long-established, family-run timber merchant supplying timber, fencing, landscaping and building materials throughout Essex and the surrounding areas.
We are looking for a hardworking, punctual and reliable individual to join our team. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be polite and professional with customers, and be happy to adapt to a variety of duties within the business.
This role is primarily a Delivery Driver position, delivering a wide range of products including:
- Timber and sheet materials
- Concrete fencing products
- Decking materials
- Bagged aggregates
- Fixings and associated building materials
Deliveries are carried out using our 3.5-tonne Isuzu Grafter dropside vans and involve manual loading and unloading at customer properties, trade premises and building sites.
Our delivery area mainly covers SS, RM and CM postcodes, with the occasional delivery into London.
Whilst this is primarily a delivery driving role, there will be occasions where, once deliveries and vehicle loading have been completed, the successful candidate will be required to assist with general yard duties. During quieter periods of the year, additional support may also be required within our production department, helping to manufacture fence panels and trellis.
Please note: This role is physically demanding at times and involves regular manual handling, including loading and unloading heavy and bulky products such as timber, concrete fencing materials, decking and bagged aggregates. Applicants should be comfortable carrying out physical work throughout the day in both yard and delivery environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver orders safely, efficiently and on time.
- Load and unload vehicles, including heavy and bulky products.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
- Assist customers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Pick and prepare customer orders.
- Once daily deliveries and vehicle loading have been completed, assist with general yard duties and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
- During quieter periods of the year, support other departments within the business, including assisting in the production department with the manufacture of fence panels and trellis when required.
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Be hardworking, reliable and punctual.

- Be polite, approachable and professional with customers.
- Be physically fit and comfortable with manual handling.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be adaptable and willing to undertake a variety of tasks.
- Have experience within the timber, timber merchant, construction or building trade (preferred).
- Have forklift experience or be willing to undertake forklift training.
- Present a smart appearance and maintain a professional attitude, as you will be representing Daws Heath Timber Ltd when delivering to customers.
- Take pride in their work and represent the company professionally.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence with no current penalty points (clean licence required).
- A minimum of 2 years' driving experience (required for insurance purposes).
- Comfortable driving a 3.5-tonne vehicle.
- Ability to carry out manual handling duties.
Working Hours
- 40 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday.
- 7:30am – 4:30pm.
- 1-hour lunch break.
- Two 15-minute refreshment breaks.
- Additional Saturday shifts available when required.
