Notwen House Care Home is a welcoming 24-bed residential care home committed to providing high-quality, person-centred care in a warm, supportive, and homely environment. The home has excellent Care Inspectorate grades and maintains strong relationships with the local community and professional partners.
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Night Shift Lead to provide leadership and support during night shifts, ensuring residents receive safe, high-quality care while maintaining the smooth and effective operation of the home overnight.
The Role
As Night Shift Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the night team, coordinating care delivery, and ensuring residents' needs are met with dignity, compassion, and professionalism.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work alongside care staff delivering care and support to our residents as well as , offering guidance, support, and supervision throughout the shift. You will act as the senior person on duty overnight, ensuring that care standards, policies, and procedures are consistently followed.
You will play a key role in maintaining a calm, safe, and supportive environment for residents whilst providing leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving support to the night team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the night shift, ensuring the smooth running of the home overnight.
- Guide, support, and supervise care staff, promoting high standards of person-centred care.
- Act as a role model for professionalism, care practice, and resident engagement.
- Monitor residents' wellbeing and recognise changes in physical, emotional, or health needs.
- Escalate concerns appropriately and ensure effective communication with management and healthcare professionals when required.
- Administer medication safely and accurately in accordance with company policies and best practice.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant care records and documentation.
- Support safeguarding procedures and respond appropriately to concerns regarding resident welfare.
- Promote dignity, independence, choice, and meaningful engagement for residents.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with residents, families, and visiting professionals.
- Manage conflicts, concerns, or incidents calmly and effectively.
- Ensure a safe environment through effective risk awareness and management.
- Support the induction, development, and ongoing coaching of team members.
- Ensure night-time routines and operational requirements are completed to a high standard.
- Contribute to a positive, supportive, and respectful team culture.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Criteria
- Experience in residential elderly care.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Senior Carer, Team Lead, Shift Lead, or similar supervisory role within a care setting.
- SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards the qualification.
- Medication administration qualification /Experience administering medication safely and accurately.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Good understanding of person-centred care and Care Inspectorate standards.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and safe working practices.
- Excellent observation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and resilient during challenging situations.
- Reliable, accountable, and committed to delivering high-quality care.
Desirable Criteria
- SVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care.
- Leadership or supervisory qualification.
- Experience supporting staff development and mentoring colleagues.
- Current UK Driving Licence
