We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Lecturer in Sports Coaching to join our School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity for an academic with expertise in sport coaching, coach development and applied practice to contribute to the education and development of future professionals in sport.
The Role
As Lecturer in Sports Coaching, you will deliver high-quality, practice-led teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and professional understanding required for careers in coaching, sport development and related sectors.
You will contribute to the design and delivery of engaging modules focused on areas including:
- Sport coaching theory and practice
- Athlete development
- Coach education
- Community sport and participation
- Contemporary issues in sport, including inclusion, welfare and sporting cultures
You will support students through teaching, supervision and mentoring, while contributing to innovative approaches to learning, curriculum development and external engagement.
The role will also provide opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and external partners to develop applied practice, education innovation and knowledge exchange activity aligned with departmental and faculty priorities.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Deliver engaging research-informed and practice-led teaching through lectures, seminars, practical sessions and workshops.
- Support undergraduate and postgraduate student learning, supervision and assessment.
- Contribute to curriculum development and enhancement across sport coaching and related programmes.
- Provide academic support and pastoral guidance to students.
- Participate in quality assurance and enhancement activities.
- Contribute to applied practice initiatives, educational innovation and knowledge exchange activities.
- Develop relationships with external partners, including sporting organisations, governing bodies and community sport providers.
- Contribute positively to the wider School, Faculty and University community.
About You
You will have a strong background in sports coaching, sport development or a related discipline, with experience applying coaching knowledge within educational, sporting or community environments.
You will have:
- A PhD in Sports Coaching, Sport Development or a related discipline.
- Experience of working within applied sport coaching, coach education, community sport, physical activity or sporting environments.
- Knowledge of contemporary coaching practice and coach development.
- Understanding of the social, pedagogical and developmental role of sport across diverse contexts.
- Experience of applying sociological, qualitative and/or interdisciplinary approaches to sport through teaching, research or professional practice.
- Experience supporting student learning, supervision and assessment.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a commitment to inclusive, student-centred learning.
A recognised Level 2 (or higher) coaching qualification and experience of professional development within sport coaching would be desirable.
