Job description:
The People Advisor is a key strategic and operational role within the HR team, responsible for delivering high-quality, compliant, and people-focused HR services. Reporting to the Head of People, this role supports workforce planning, employee relations, and HR operations, while overseeing recruitment activities and ensuring compliance across all employee lifecycle processes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Partnership
- Act as a trusted advisor to managers and teams on HR policies, procedures, and employment matters
- Support the Head of People in implementing HR strategy and workforce development initiatives
- Lead on employee relations casework, including liaison with external partners (e.g., legal, occupational health)
- Draft and issue formal correspondence to employees, including contracts, amendments, and case-related letters
- Stay current with employment legislation and ensure internal policies remain compliant
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate employee records, including flexible working arrangements, contract changes, and personal data updates
- Update and manage HR databases (sickness, maternity, performance, holiday records)
- Prepare and maintain HR documentation for audits and compliance reviews
- Be the first point of contact for employee HR queries, providing timely and professional support
- Provide Payroll with accurate and timely HR data on starters, leavers, maternity, sickness, and contract changes
- Complete Return to Work interviews and ensure documentation is filed appropriately
- Review DBS data regularly to ensure ongoing compliance and timely renewals
- Sign off new starter files for Payroll once all compliance documentation is complete
- Support the Head of People with external reporting and submissions
Training & Development
- Maintain up-to-date training records and conduct monthly audits
- Identify and communicate training gaps or concerns to relevant departments
- Coordinate training dates and logistics with internal teams and external providers
Recruitment Oversight
- Support the recruitment ensuring the processes are efficient, inclusive, and compliant
- Ensure onboarding documentation and compliance checks (DBS, references, Right to Work, risk assessments) are completed and filed
- Sign off new starter files for Payroll once recruitment compliance is verified
- Attend recruitment fairs and external engagement events to support talent acquisition
- Review recruitment KPIs and contribute to continuous improvement of hiring practices
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in HR advisory or business partnering roles
- Strong understanding of UK employment law, HR compliance, and safeguarding practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive information
- Proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Desirable Attributes
- CIPD Level 3 or equivalent qualification
- Experience in regulated sectors such as healthcare, education, or social care
- Confidence in managing casework and liaising with external legal or occupational health partners
- A proactive and solutions-focused mindset
