2 year fixed term contract
South West Devon is home to over 8,000 businesses and hundreds of community organisations. The Councils’ Place and Economy Team oversee a range of business and community support projects, including regenerative farming support, marine decarbonisation activities, Government grant distribution, community economic plan development and active travel infrastructure projects.
The Place and Economy Team at South Hams and West Devon Councils is looking for a dynamic and charismatic individual to drive forward a variety of strategically important projects, to oversee our active travel programme, and to support the service and its partners to bid for funding to bolster wider activities within the community. Our team embraces innovation - leading on several nationally significant projects, and embraces climate change mitigation - embodying decarbonisation throughout our programme of activities.
You will need to take a collaborative approach to developing projects, securing funding for projects, and overseeing the delivery of projects, often through contracts awarded to third parties, but also through direct project delivery.
Outside of the existing programme of activities, you will be given the flexibility to develop business cases for new projects, seek funding for wider service activities, and the opportunity to oversee their delivery. There is scope for these projects to straddle the wider service, including community development, economic growth, and decarbonisation related activities.
If you would like an informal discussion about the role, contact Chris Shears, Head of Place and Economy on [email protected] or 07837 397029.
Closing date: Sunday 27 September 2026
Interviews are expected to be held week commencing: 5 October 2026
