Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Design Engineer to lead the Security design of an independent consultancy specialising in ICT technical design. They provide technical expertise to blue chip global clients to deliver market leading ICT infrastructure engineering solutions for data centers, offices and production environments across EMEA.
Role & Responsibilities
The Principal Security Design Engineer will be managing and mentoring teams on large scale projects, alongside industry experts with overall responsibility for the technical content and accuracy of team output.
Project Management
- Lead a project team of engineers and other key stakeholders to include clients and suppliers to ensure that all projects are delivered in alignment with company expectations and standards to include being delivered on-time and within budget.
- Undertake a hands-on client facing role in the development, design and coordination of Security infrastructure.
- Represent company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors’ teams.
- Day to day decision making on project progress and direct liaison with and provides advice to client.
Technical Security Design
- Manage client security requirements in line with client brief and/or other project requirements, ranging from consultancy advice (risk management and strategy) to engineering designs (physical and electronic security)
- Develop and specify security infrastructure designs within a variety of environments.
- Carry out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards.
- Validation and checking of designs and specifications.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies related to AV engineering.
Construction Administration
- Survey, test, and report on existing installations.
- Specify activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
Leadership
- Provide feedback and supports engineer team to aid their personal development.
- Act in an ethical manner and follows the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines.
Essential Skills and Experience
Project experience
- Prior experience leading security design for large international clients, in particular data center clients
- Demonstrable management skills and prior experience of managing technical project teams in a Security environment.
- Practical experience of the design of security infrastructure and its installation.
- Extensive experience of security systems and physical infrastructure design.

- Competency in specification design/drawing for various building types.

- Ability to clearly communicate design intent or other technical arguments as part of client facing role. Clear (written as well as oral) communication skills. You must be confident and feel comfortable conversing on the telephone, via email and face-to-face as well as to be able to write concise reports.
