About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Structural Engineer to join their Shrewsbury office. This leadership role offers the opportunity to manage complex projects, lead multidisciplinary design teams, develop client relationships, and contribute to the strategic growth of the structural engineering business.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience delivering structural engineering projects across sectors such as commercial, residential, mixed-use, education, healthcare, or infrastructure, with a strong understanding of UK design standards and construction practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of structural engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Manage project teams, ensuring technical excellence, programme delivery, and commercial performance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and contractors.
- Mentor and manage graduate, intermediate, and senior engineers.
- Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, British Standards, and relevant health and safety legislation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams throughout project delivery.
- Identify and manage project risks, resources, and budgets.
- Support business development by preparing fee proposals, attending client meetings, and securing new work.
- Contribute to the strategic growth and continuous improvement of the structural engineering team.
- Promote innovation, sustainability, and best engineering practice.
Requirements
Essential
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) statue with Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
- Typically 10-15+ years of structural engineering experience within a UK consultancy.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary structural projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Eurocodes

- CDM Regulations
- Experience designing structures in:
- Reinforced concrete
- Structural steel
- Timber
- Masonry
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and project financial management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience with high-rise development and complex building structures.
- Experience working on refurbishment and adaptive reuse projects.
- Existing network of clients and industry contacts in the UK.
- Experience with sustainable design and low-carbon structural solutions.
- Ability to win new work and contribute to business development strategy.
