Hexagon Life Planning Services is a growing specialist estate-planning business helping individuals and families put the right plans in place for the future.
We are looking for an Estate Planning Adviser to join our team and develop into a key client-facing member of Hexagon.
This is not a traditional back-office paralegal role.
You will spend a significant amount of your time speaking to clients, understanding their circumstances, explaining their options clearly and helping them make confident decisions about wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and wider estate planning.
We can teach and develop technical knowledge. What is much harder to teach is the ability to put people at ease, build genuine rapport and communicate naturally.
For that reason, we are looking for someone who is warm, approachable, confident and personable, with excellent common sense and sound judgement.
You should enjoy talking to people, be comfortable dealing with clients from all walks of life and have the ability to make sometimes difficult subjects feel straightforward and manageable.
A good sense of humour is important too. Estate planning can involve serious conversations, but our clients value a personal, human approach rather than something overly formal or intimidating.
The role
You will:
- conduct estate-planning consultations with clients;
- take detailed instructions for wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney;
- understand clients' family circumstances, concerns and objectives;
- identify wider estate-planning needs where appropriate;
- explain legal and technical concepts in straightforward, understandable language;
- provide excellent follow-up and client care;
- maintain accurate attendance notes and client records;
- work closely with our administration team to ensure matters progress efficiently;
- recognise when a matter requires more complex or specialist advice and refer it appropriately;
- develop strong, long-term client relationships;
- benefit from a regular flow of qualified client appointments provided by Hexagon; and
- over time, build your own client following through referrals, repeat work and professional relationships.
Who we are looking for
You do not need to be a solicitor.
You may currently be a private-client paralegal, legal assistant, trainee legal executive, will writer or someone who has gained relevant experience within a wills, probate or private-client team.
Some previous experience of wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney or private-client work would be advantageous, as it will allow you to develop into the advisory side of the role more quickly.
However, we are equally interested in the person behind the CV.
We are looking for someone who:
- is naturally warm and able to build rapport quickly;
- has a calm, confident manner;
- communicates clearly without unnecessary jargon;
- has good common sense and sound judgement;
- is comfortable asking questions and genuinely listening to the answers;
- can talk about sensitive subjects with empathy and maturity;
- has a good sense of humour and an easy, natural way with people;
- is commercially aware without being pushy or sales-driven;
- takes responsibility and follows things through;
- is organised and dependable;
- knows when to ask for help rather than bluff;
- responds well to feedback and wants to improve; and
- wants to become an excellent adviser rather than simply process files.
We care about technical competence, but we care just as much about whether a client would trust you, feel comfortable with you and confidently recommend you to somebody else.
What we offer
This is initially a three-day-per-week role, with genuine scope to increase hours as your client base and the business continue to grow.
You will receive:
- salary of £28,000–£32,000 FTE, pro rata depending on experience;
- an additional performance-related bonus opportunity;
- a regular flow of qualified client appointments provided by Hexagon;
- structured training in the Hexagon approach to estate planning;
- direct mentoring from the founder, a qualified solicitor;
- substantial client contact from an early stage;
- support to develop your own client following;
- an established administration function around you; and
- genuine scope for increased responsibility and progression as Hexagon grows.
We are building Hexagon around clear advice, strong relationships and a genuinely personal service.
We do not want clients to feel as though they are being processed through a legal system.
We want them to feel listened to, comfortable, well advised and looked after.
If you are technically curious, brilliant with people, commercially aware and interested in developing into an outstanding estate-planning adviser, we would love to hear from you.
To apply, please send your CV together with a short covering note explaining why this particular role interests you and what you think makes someone genuinely good with clients.
Pay: £18,000.00-£23,000.00 per year
