The Role
Halfway Surfacing & Civil Engineering Ltd is looking for an experienced Working Foreman to supervise and support the delivery of groundworks, infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
This is an excellent opportunity to work across a varied range of civil engineering and groundworks schemes. The role will offer variety in both the type and scale of work undertaken.
This is a hands-on position requiring someone who can lead operatives and subcontractors while also assisting with site activities when required. The successful candidate must have extensive practical knowledge of groundworks and civil engineering and be confident managing health and safety, quality, site coordination and programme delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise site operatives, plant operators and subcontractors.
- Coordinate daily site activities, labour, plant, materials and deliveries.
- Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required specification.
- Drive works in accordance with the agreed construction programme.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and site information.
- Carry out and supervise general excavations, drainage, kerbing and reinstatement works.
- Oversee earthworks, infrastructure and external works packages.
- Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks and daily activity planning.
- Ensure RAMS, permits and safe systems of work are followed.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and housekeeping.
- Complete site records, progress updates, plant checks and relevant paperwork.
- Liaise with site managers, clients, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identify potential delays, defects or safety concerns and take appropriate action.
- Assist practically on site when required.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have strong experience across all aspects of groundworks and civil engineering, including:
- General excavations.
- Drainage and underground services.
- Kerbing and concrete works.
- Road and footway construction.
- Surfacing preparation and reinstatement works.
- Earthworks and infrastructure projects.
- Managing operatives and subcontractors.
- Coordinating multiple site activities.
- Working from construction drawings and specifications.
- Delivering works safely and within programme deadlines.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold:
- Valid CSCS card.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- First Aid at Work.
- CPCS or recognised equivalent Dumper qualification.
- Street Works qualification.
- Confined Spaces qualification.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
Additional plant qualifications and civil engineering tickets would be advantageous.
