Outreach Behaviour Mentor
The Supply Room are seeking behaviour mentors to work in an alternative provision within Plymouth. In this role, you will be working closely with children and young adults who have SEMH, providing one-to-one mentorship and guidance to those who require educational and mental health support. Previous experience supporting individuals with SEN is advantageous as many of the students may have ASC or ADHD, but we are most keen to hear from applicants who have worked within a Pupil Referral Unit or Alternative Provision Academy supporting children with SEMH using trauma informed approaches. The salary for this position ranges from £93 - £100 per day, depending on the applicant's experience.
Here you can make a real change in the lives of students who are struggling with their schooling. Through your modelling of good behaviour and mentorship you will set the example of how to behave and how to develop into a well rounded adult. You will primarily be working 1:1 with a student, managing their behaviour, engagement with their studies, and providing pastoral support. You may need to drive students to outreach activities which you will accompany them on, and you may be required to pick them up in the mornings or to drop them home if they struggle with attendance. Having a driving license and business insurance on your car is required as a result.
We welcome applicants from people who have experience effectively managing challenging behaviours. This may include experiences gained in PRU’s / APA’s, Mainstream schools, residential child care workers, Prison Officers, Youth Mentors and Sports Coaches.
What do you need?
- A driving license, and ideally business insurance on your car – or the capacity to get business insurance if you are successful at interview
- A strong desire and interest for working in the education sector
- Consistency, reliability, and punctuality to maintain the highest level of support for the students
- A firm but fair manner and a good sense of humour
- Previous experience in childcare, particularly within education or care environments
- Confidence managing challenging behaviours and handling stressful situations with a level head
- It would be advantageous to have experience supporting children and young individuals with SEN, SEMH, ASD, and challenging behaviours
