About the Role
Working within our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for designing bespoke electrical control panels and low-voltage distribution equipment, ensuring designs are practical to manufacture, fully compliant with relevant standards and delivered on time.
You will work closely with our sales, project management, production and test teams, providing technical expertise throughout each project.
Key Responsibilities
- Design bespoke industrial control panels, motor control centres and low-voltage switchboards.
- Produce high-quality electrical schematics, panel layouts and manufacturing documentation using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOMs), cable schedules, terminal schedules and test documentation.
- Specify electrical components suitable for UK, European and international markets.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards including BS EN 61439, BS EN 60204-1, UL508A and customer specifications where required.
- Carry out design calculations and component selection.
- Support the production and test departments by resolving technical queries during manufacture.
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide technical support to the sales and applications teams during quotation and project stages.
- Maintain engineering documentation and design records in accordance with company procedures.
About You
We're looking for someone who is technically capable, organised and enjoys working on varied engineering projects.
Essential
- Previous experience designing industrial control panels and/or low-voltage switchboards.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Experience selecting electrical components for industrial applications.
- Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Good knowledge of industrial electrical standards and safe design practices.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience designing UL508A control panels.
- Knowledge of BS EN 61439 and BS EN 60204-1.
- Experience with IEC standards and international electrical systems.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and engineering change processes.
- HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
