Do you enjoy working with young people? Are you passionate about inclusive education? Are you ready for a rewarding role in a secondary school rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted? We are a large, successful and richly diverse comprehensive school adjacent to Calderstones Park, South Liverpool, and we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our close-knit SEND Team.
Our community, our diversity, our ethos and our values are not just words, they shape everything we do. We believe that every student, regardless of background, prior attainment, gender or faith, deserves a first-class education. Nobody rises to low expectations, and we hold that standard for our students and our staff alike.
The Role
Working under the direction of the SENDCO and Assistant SENDCO, and in partnership with teaching staff, you will support learning for individual pupils and small groups, and help teachers manage pupils effectively in the classroom. Your duties will include:
- Supporting students with learning activities as agreed with the teacher, and preparing and setting out classroom resources when required
- Supporting the feedback process to teachers regarding pupil progress and behaviour
- Adjusting learning activities based on pupils’ responses as appropriate to achieve effective learning outcomes
- Encouraging inclusion in the classroom and supporting pupils to interact with others and engage in activities
- Anticipating and managing behaviour constructively, in line with school policy
- Running small group and 1:1 interventions for literacy and numeracy
- Applying knowledge of SEND, SEMH and neurodiversity to positively support the classroom environment and the learning of all students
- Contributing to Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) review meetings where appropriate
About You
Experience of working with young people (age 11–19) with SEND, and an awareness of neurodiversity, is essential. You will either hold a nationally recognised qualification in a relevant field or be willing to work towards one. A good standard of numeracy and literacy to GCSE grade C (or equivalent) is essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
This role would suit someone with energy and enthusiasm for learning, who is calm, patient and compassionate, and who is committed to inclusive practice and maintaining high expectations for every student. You will be confident supporting students to fully access our curriculum, cultural events and enrichment activities.

In 2023, Ofsted rated Calderstones ‘Good’ in all areas.
