Holiday Inn Express Dunstable is looking for a practical, hands-on Maintenance Assistant to help keep our hotel running smoothly, safely, and looking its best — from fixing the small things guests never notice to supporting the bigger jobs that keep the building compliant and comfortable.
Key Details:
- Location: Holiday Inn Express, London Rd, Dunstable LU6 3DX
- Pay: Up to £27,000 per year, depending on experience
- Contract: Full-time, permanent, subject to satisfactory completion of a 3-month probationary period
- Hours: 40 hours per week — ideally 8 hours a day, 5 out of 7 days on site
- Standard working week, though days and times may vary according to business need (weekend cover included on a rota basis)
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and general upkeep across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house
- Respond promptly to reported faults and reactive maintenance requests
- Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine servicing across the building
- Assist with weekly and monthly in-house fire safety and life safety checks (fire doors, exit routes, emergency lighting, extinguishers) as part of the hotel's compliance schedule
- Handle basic plumbing, non-notifiable electrical work, carpentry, painting, and decorating tasks
- Support and coordinate with external contractors and engineers (fire alarm, lifts, HVAC) during site visits
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and flag anything requiring specialist attention
- Help maintain external areas, lighting, and general grounds upkeep
- Uphold brand, safety, and cleanliness standards throughout the property
About You:
- No formal qualification as an electrician or engineer required — but some hands-on experience in maintenance, trades, facilities, or a similar practical role is preferred
- A genuine interest in fixing things and figuring out how they work
- Practical, proactive, and confident using your own initiative
- Comfortable following health & safety procedures and working safely at all times
- Flexible to work across a 7-day rota, including weekends as required
- Must be eligible to work in the UK and able to provide references
