Join a Growing Construction Company
We are GEM Construction and we are looking to add a new member to our expanding team. We're a fast-growing construction company based in Bath, delivering high-quality projects across the South West. As our portfolio continues to expand, we're looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership, working closely with clients and project teams, and playing a key role in the commercial success of a growing business.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you'll be responsible for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account. You'll work alongside our operational team to ensure projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare cost plans, budgets and tender submissions.
- Procure and manage subcontractor packages.
- Prepare and negotiate subcontract agreements.
- Monitor project costs and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Produce valuations, applications for payment and variation accounts.
- Assess subcontractor applications and manage payments.
- Prepare monthly cost reports and forecasts.
- Manage change control and contractual correspondence.
- Negotiate and agree final accounts.
- Support project managers with commercial decision-making.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
About You
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial practices.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard estimating/commercial software.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Membership of, or working towards, the RICS or CIOB.
- Experience across residential, commercial, refurbishment or heritage projects.
