Operational Support Manager
Salary £54,088 per annum, 10% annual bonus potential, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising with service

Join us as an Operational Support Manager and play a key role in shaping how we deliver excellence every day. In this key position, you’ll lead the embedding and evolution of our Operating System across our Delivery units within a defined area, working closely with teams to build capability, strengthen performance, and drive sustainable results.
The role
As Operational Support Manager, you will work closely with operational teams, functional SMEs, and regional leadership to support monthly unit reviews, strengthen problem solving capability, and reinforce disciplined ways of working.
A key aspect of the role is to conduct daily site visits to operational units to drive performance and support with the following:

Embedment of the Operating System, ensuring the core principles, behaviours, and routines are applied and sustained, driving operational performance

Coach leaders and teams in the effective use of Operating System tools and performance improvements

Conduct daily site visits and monthly unit reviews, to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and engagement KPIs (SQDCPE), ensuring data quality and performance conversations

Enable teams to identify, prioritise, and deliver improvement opportunities aligned to business goals. Develop and maintain Value Stream Maps to identify waste, flow constraints, and improvement opportunities

Support teams to address recurring or complex problems using structured problem solving and route cause analysis techniques

Drive a focus on standardisation, simplifying and optimising operational processes to improve SQDCPE

Work closely with Functional SMEs and support national trials related to improvement activity
Location:
The role covers approx. 40 of our larger, more complex units within the South East, East Anglia and Greater London. Extensive travel is required with site visits (Monday to Thursday) and occasional overnight stays. A full UK driving licence is essential.
About you
You need to demonstrate the following skills and experience upon your CV:

Proven experience of continuous improvement tools and techniques, lean thinking, process mapping and value stream mapping

Experience supporting change in a unionised operational environment

Relevant industry experience within mail operations or high volume environments (e.g. logistics, manufacturing, utilities)

Knowledge and understanding of end to end operational pipeline environments, including flow, constraints, dependencies, and value creation

A highly credible practitioner and coach with the ability to challenge constructively and provide workable solutions in complex operational environments

Strong people and team leadership skills, with the ability to build capability, influence at all levels

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, confident facilitator of performance reviews and improvement discussions

Highly organised and self motivated

Strong analytical capability, with a track record of data driven decision making performance improvement
