Trainee Payroll Administrator

The Ideal Candidate:
- Will have excellent attention to detail
- Willing to listen and learn, with a 'can do’ attitude
- Ability to work on their own initiative, organised and accurate
- Competent using Microsoft Office packages - in particular Excel. Willing to learn and be trained further on Excel and specialist payroll software
- A good communicator who builds positive working relationships with colleagues and clients
- Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
- Able to work under pressure
- This role requires a candidate who has achieved 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4+ or above including Maths and English. A Levels (or equivalent qualifications) would be advantageous.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
You will learn many aspects of the payroll process for our clients’ employees including:
- Assisting with, and over time taking ownership of client payrolls, ensuring they are processed accurately and within the given time scales.
- Supporting client communications and, as experience develops, liaising with clients and HMRC regarding routine queries.
- Submitting HMRC information in a timely manner.
- Running reports and checking payrolls for accuracy.
- Preparing letters for clients, informing them of their PAYE liabilities and other payroll related matters.
- Completing year end and distributing P60s to clients.
- Processing client BACS payments.
- Dealing with post on a daily basis and responding to internal and client queries professionally by telephone and email.
- Maintaining confidentiality and handling payroll information in line with HWB procedures and GDPR requirements.
- Escalating queries or issues promptly to senior team members where appropriate.
- Maintaining clear payroll notes, records and working papers.
