Main Purpose
- To assist the Town Council in delivering a good standard of Parks & Open Space Facilities for the Council. The post holder is a general maintenance operative and contributes to the overall development, operation and maintenance of the Council’s playgrounds, sports grounds, trees, plants & gardens, open spaces, and leisure facilities, however this position does involve possessing knowledge of day-to-day sports turf management.
Position within the Organisation
- The post holder reports directly to the Parks & Open Spaces Manager.
Main Duties
As a key member of the grounds team, this role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of sports surfaces including football, rugby and cricket and tennis training grounds, along with the fine turf management of Croquet and Bowls Key
Responsibilities
- Mowing, line marking (including initial marking and pitch rotation planning), scarifying, aerating, and topdressing turf using professional groundskeeping machinery and hand tools Fertilising and weed control under health & safety guidelines
- Identification of fine turf diseases and pests, and creation of action plans for remedial actions.
- General site upkeep including hedge trimming, litter picking, and minor repairs Supporting with match preparation and post-match recovery as required.
Requirements
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance and sports turf is necessary
- Familiarity with machinery operation and basic mechanical knowledge is required although training could also be given
- Basic qualification of NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Maintenance required or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Qualification in Safe application of Pesticides/Herbicides (PA1 and PA6)
- Commitment to support other depot team members in routine tasks if required
- The post holder must be enthusiastic, reliable, and happy to work outdoors in all weathers, and happy to interact politely and calmly with the public on occasions
- Commitment to attend approximately 4 Council organised public events a year, usually a Friday evening or a weekend
Pay: £26,824.00-£28,598.00 per year
