Your compassion, empathy and patience will be your biggest strengths within this role. Leaning into a soft and understanding yet confident approach will be necessary. We need somebody who is not fazed by a challenge - If you see opportunity where others see difficulty this is the role for you! This role requires someone who can build strong, trusting relationships with children while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries. You will offer support both inside and outside the classroom, providing pupils with a calm space when they become overwhelmed and helping them return to learning positively.
The focus is not on punishment, but on understanding the reasons behind behaviour and helping children make better choices. Strong behaviour-management skills, emotional awareness and the ability to establish authority without being heavy-handed will be essential.
If you have experience working in pastoral roles, and a solid understanding of issues that may be affecting students whether they’re social, emotional or mental health issues this is an ideal role for you. We need a patient, understanding and resilient person to flourish in this role and help students stay on track with their learning and create a safe space for them to do so when they are unable to work within mainstream classroom settings!
