Sharper in purpose. Stronger in connection. Bolder in ambition.
Osborne Clarke is an international, full-service law firm focused on organisations in high growth sectors, navigating high regulatory intensity, rapid innovation and disruption, and multi-jurisdictional complexity. Our foundation is a culture of character, camaraderie and collaboration that helps our colleagues thrive and our clients succeed. We are now evolving our people centred culture to become even more ambitious. This brings greater opportunity to do strategic, complex work – often collaborating across borders – with talented, generous colleagues, and to leverage data and technology to shape a firm that is growing with purpose and confidence.
Service Innovation Lawyers
Innovation and technology are central to our strategic ambitions. We have a number of exciting new opportunities for Service Innovation Lawyers to work within our practice groups, helping to shape and deliver AI enabled legal services for our clients. These roles are available on both a permanent and fixed-term basis, and can be based from any of our UK offices. We operate a hybrid working model so you can benefit from time both at home and in the office. The successful candidates will receive structured training and ongoing development in AI, legal technology and client service innovation. This role will suit lawyers already in a similar role, as well as those looking to pivot into this space. Previous experience in a legal technology and AI role is not required - though we are looking for a strong interest in this space.
The Team
As a Service Innovation Lawyer, you will be embedded in your relevant Practice Group, working day-to-day alongside Partners and fee earning teams. You will also be part of, and work closely with, our Osborne Clarke Solutions ("OCS") team, a multidisciplinary group of ex-lawyers and technologists based in the UK and Europe, who provide the strategic framework, tools and methodology that underpin the firm's service innovation programme. By talking to clients, using AI and collaborative technology to develop legal project management tools, we believe that we can continue to transform our services and further strengthen Osborne Clarke's position in the market.
The firm's service innovation programme has already delivered solutions to a number of clients across several jurisdictions, with hundreds of matters now being instructed, run and managed online. There are many more opportunities to design and implement new delivery and technology tools, and to help clients with their own process improvements. You will also help ensure our lawyers have the resources, products and know-how needed to provide the best possible service. Embedded day-to-day within your Practice Group, you will work closely with Partners, fee earning teams, our in-house Knowledge team and clients, with the support and strategic direction of OCS. You will play a pivotal role in turning the firm’s AI strategy into practice: embedding AI enabled ways of working in live matters and helping to design and deliver new AI enabled products and services.
As demand for these solutions grows, we are investing in additional legally experienced resource to help build and manage our portfolio of AI enabled products, services and solutions across OC jurisdictions. You will be supported with tailored training, mentoring and exposure to a broad range of projects to develop your skills in this area.
Key role responsibilities
You will:
- Work directly alongside fee earning lawyers on live client matters to design, test and refine AI enabled ways of delivering existing legal services.
- Turn stakeholder requests into scoped, risk aware and commercially grounded plans with defined deliverables and timelines.
- Identify and shape new AI enabled products and services based on live matter experience, client feedback and market insight.
- Act as a credible client facing voice on AI, explaining Osborne Clarke’s AI enabled delivery models, pricing, risk management and governance in a clear, practical way.
- Champion the adoption of generative AI tools and new workflows across your practice group, ensuring alignment with the firm’s AI governance framework (including confidentiality, accuracy and regulatory compliance).
- Track developments in AI and legal technology and translate them into practical improvements to services, processes and knowledge assets.
- Provide professional support to OC and Business Services, contributing to continuous process improvement and promoting a culture of proactive, high quality client service.
Person specification
As well as having an excellent track record in client service, we need someone who is:
- Qualified as a Lawyer with strong knowledge of the relevant practice area/service line and the credibility to engage confidently with Partners and clients.
- Genuinely interested in AI, technology and service innovation, with curiosity to build expertise independently and a good instinct for where AI does and does not add value.
- Able to break down complex or vague client asks into clear, structured and deliverable plans, using AI responsibly and working through ambiguity with strong problem-solving skills.
- A strong communicator and influencer, able to build trust with lawyers and clients, manage expectations through proactive communication, and hold a position in challenging conversations.
- Commercially astute, focused on solutions that deliver real impact for clients and Osborne Clarke rather than using AI for its own sake, and comfortable balancing innovation with risk, cost and quality.
- A collaborative and people focused team member, contributing to a healthy team dynamic, supporting wellbeing, and invested in delivering a consistently excellent client experience.
- Detail oriented and rigorous in testing and quality assuring AI outputs, with resilience and tenacity to iterate, learn from setbacks and continually improve services.
- You will have access to comprehensive training and development to help you build and deepen these capabilities over time.
We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits. We value the health and wellbeing of our people and our wide range of initiatives and benefits support this.
