This role requires a motivated, analytical and detail-oriented individual who can quickly establish themselves as a key point of contact for management information across the business.
You will be responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient running of the accounts function, ensuring the delivery of timely and accurate management and composite accounts, while supporting the dealership in maximising profitability, performance and cash flow.
Working with the management team, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting it and driving financial control across the business.
The position would suit someone who is commercially aware, willing to contribute to strategy, methodical and capable of building strong relationships across all departments.
Core Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Produce monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, annual budgets and year-end statutory files.
- Manufacturer Compliance: Submit mandatory statistical data and composite accounts directly to vehicle manufacturers.
- Payroll: Processing of payroll and ensuring all payroll administration is up to date.
- Tax compliance: Ensuring HMRC compliance for VAT, PAYE and corporation tax.
- Banking and cashflow: Setting up bank payments including monthly payment runs and managing cashflow in relation to stock funding plans.
- FCA compliance: Liaise with our appointed representative and ensure compliance with the FCA rules and training requirements.
- Day-to-Day Ledgers: Oversee purchase and sales ledgers, bank reconciliations, inter-company accounts and monitoring stock and work in progress.
- Management support: Provide timely reports to departmental managers.
- Team management: Leading a small team of accounts colleagues, ensuring a high standard of work and consistent processes that align with the reporting requirements of management and the manufacturers.
Candidate requirements
- Someone with an accounting qualification, ideally with a background in automotive retail, though this is not essential.
- Someone with strong attention to detail, who can work independently and confidently take ownership of day-to-day finance activities.
- Someone who can motivate and support their team while collaborating effectively with stakeholders across the business.
- Most importantly, someone who thrives on accuracy, accountability, and upholding the values of professionalism and integrity, meeting deadlines and providing accurate management information.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and experience with a dealer management systems (DMS) would be an advantage as well as being proficient in Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications.
