Overview
A specialist SEND provision in Harrogate is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Autism Learning Support Assistant to join the team from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition, helping them access learning, develop social communication skills, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
The provision offers a structured, nurturing, and highly inclusive environment, using personalised approaches to meet the individual needs of each pupil. Working alongside teachers, therapists, and wider support staff, you will play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
This role is available on a full-time basis, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities tailored to individual needs and EHCP targets.
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and sensory needs.
- Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour, engagement, and independence.
- Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCOs, therapists, and families to support pupil development.
- Support pupils during lessons, breaktimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, achievements, and wellbeing.
- Encourage the development of life skills, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Maintain safeguarding standards and promote the welfare of all pupils.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism, SEND, or additional needs in an educational, care, or support setting.
- Understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition and the barriers it can present to learning and social development.
- Knowledge of strategies to support communication, sensory processing, and emotional regulation.
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting young people.
- Ability to remain calm and resilient when managing challenging situations.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Relevant qualifications such as Teaching Assistant, Education Studies, Child Development, Psychology, Health and Social Care, or equivalent experience are desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£115.00 per day
