EXPERIENCED BABY ROOM LEADER AND BABY ROOM PRACTITIONERS

ABOUT THE ROLE
A-Star Kids is looking to recruit high-quality, experienced early years professionals to join our baby room team.
We are recruiting for:
- An experienced Baby Room Leader
- Experienced Level 3 Baby Room Practitioners
Applicants must have at least three years’ experience working within an early years setting, with strong experience caring for babies and children under two years old.
We are looking for confident, reliable and highly professional practitioners who can provide exceptional standards of care. Strong leadership, safeguarding knowledge and a genuine understanding of babies’ emotional, physical and developmental needs are essential.
BABY ROOM LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES
The Baby Room Leader will be responsible for leading the room and maintaining consistently high standards of care, safety and early education.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading, supporting and supervising the baby room team
- Following Safer Sleep Practices and documenting sleeps rigorously
- Providing clear direction and maintaining high professional standards
- Ensuring babies receive warm, responsive and individualised care
- Creating a calm, nurturing and stimulating environment
- Ensuring staff follow each baby’s individual feeding, sleeping and personal care routines
- Planning high-quality learning experiences in line with the EYFS
- Monitoring children’s progress and identifying developmental concerns
- Ensuring observations, assessments and next steps are accurate and meaningful
- Maintaining appropriate staffing ratios and safe staff deployment
- Completing room checks, risk assessments and daily safety procedures
- Coaching staff and modelling excellent practice
- Communicating professionally and sensitively with parents and carers
- Supporting children’s transitions into and out of the baby room
- Working closely with nursery management, the SENDCo and the Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Ensuring safeguarding, hygiene, infection-control and safer-sleep procedures are followed
- Supporting the induction and development of new staff
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring the room is inspection-ready
BABY ROOM PRACTITIONER RESPONSIBILITIES
Baby Room Practitioners will work closely with the Room Leader to provide exceptional care and early learning opportunities.
Responsibilities will include:
- Acting as a key person for a small group of babies
- Following Safer Sleep Practices and documenting sleeps rigorously
- Building secure and trusting relationships with babies and families
- Following individual care routines accurately
- Supporting feeding, bottle preparation, weaning, sleep and personal care
- Planning suitable sensory, physical and communication activities
- Completing high-quality observations and assessments
- Supporting babies’ emotional regulation and early communication
- Maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised environment
- Following safeguarding and safer-sleep procedures
- Communicating professionally with parents and carers
- Supporting children with additional needs
- Working positively and cooperatively with colleagues
- Reporting concerns promptly and following nursery procedures
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
ESSENTIAL PERSON SPECIFICATION
Applicants must:
- Hold a recognised Level 3 Early Years qualification or higher
- Have at least three years’ experience working within an early years setting
- Have strong experience working directly with babies and children under two
- Have a secure understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage
- Understand attachment, responsive caregiving and emotional security
- Have excellent safeguarding knowledge
- Understand safer-sleep guidance and safe baby-care practices
- Be confident completing observations, assessments and developmental tracking
- Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, colleagues and management
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, organisation and presentation
- Be reliable, punctual and committed
- Work calmly and confidently in a busy environment
- Demonstrate sound professional judgement and appropriate boundaries
- Be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check
- Be able to provide satisfactory professional references
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BABY ROOM LEADER
The successful Baby Room Leader must also:
- Have proven experience leading or supervising an early years team
- Demonstrate strong leadership and staff-management skills
- Be confident challenging poor practice appropriately
- Be able to delegate tasks and monitor their completion
- Lead by example and maintain high expectations
- Be organised, proactive and solution-focused
- Be confident managing difficult conversations professionally
- Support staff development through coaching and feedback
- Take responsibility for the overall quality and organisation of the room
- Work closely with senior management to maintain continuous improvement
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Paediatric First Aid certificate
- Safeguarding training
- Food Hygiene certificate
- Safer-sleep training
- Experience supporting babies with SEND
- Previous room leadership or deputy room leadership experience
- Experience preparing for Ofsted inspections

We currently have 2 position's available at each of our nursery settings for an immediate September 2026 start (We are interviewing over summer holidays) or you may opt to start in January 2027.

Typical Full time shifts
Mon to Fri
7.30am to 3.30pm
8am-3.45pm
8.30am-3.15pm
You must hold a Level 3 or Level 6 Childcare qualification relevant to early years. Candidates who have a minimum of 2 to 3 years consecutive experience at the same nursery setting in the Early Years sector are desirable and will be shortlisted first.
Candidates must also have passed GCSE/Functional Skills in both Maths & English. You will need to provide proof of this together with your childcare qualification before you are invited for an interview.
Unfortunately we cannot consider you if you have a qualification in any other subject such as health and social care or other teaching subject not relevant to early years.
If you are a candidate with a degree or Level 3 award in Health & Social Care you will not be considered.
