Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard Manager to oversee the daily operations of our yard. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient management of materials, supervise staff, and maintain a safe working environment. This role is crucial for the smooth functioning of our warehouse and logistics operations, ensuring that all processes from loading to unloading are executed seamlessly. FERROUS AND NON FERROUS EXPERIENCE IS A DEAL BREAKER - HONEST / TRUSTWORTHY / PROACTIVE / METHODICAL WITH FANTASTIC COMMUNICATION SKILLS IS A MUST. SWITCHED ON WITH A FORWARD PLANNING ATTRIBUTE IS ESSENTIAL WITH THE ABILITY TO PICK THINGS UP RAPIDLY. DRIVING LICENCE IS NEEDED.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily yard operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Coordinate the loading and unloading of materials, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in shipping and receiving processes.
- Manage the movement of goods within the yard, optimising space utilisation and workflow.
- Operate forklifts and other machinery as required for material handling tasks.
- Maintain a clean and organised yard environment, addressing any hazards or issues promptly.
- Train and mentor staff on best practices in materials handling and warehouse management systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments to facilitate smooth operations and resolve any logistical challenges.
Skills
- Proficient in operating forklifts with a valid licence.
- Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by the role.
- Experience in warehouse operations, including shipping and receiving processes.
- Familiarity with load/unload procedures and materials handling techniques.
- Competence in using warehouse management systems for tracking inventory and managing stock levels.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail to ensure efficient yard management.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and other departments.
