Job Overview
We're recruiting a Chef/Cook to join us at the Steeple CafeBar in Drumlithie. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in well-cooked food, keeps a tidy kitchen, and enjoys being part of a community-focused hospitality venue.
Role summary
You'll take ownership of the kitchen day to day from prep through to service, ensuring consistent, well-presented food, strong food safety practices, and a clean, organised kitchen. You'll also support menu development and specials.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cooking during service and deliver consistent, well-presented dishes
- Plan and complete daily prep, portioning, labelling and safe storage
- Support menu development, specials, and ongoing improvements based on feedback
- Maintain excellent kitchen cleanliness and organisation (clean-as-you-go)
- Follow food safety procedures (HACCP), temperature checks, allergen awareness and records
- Manage stock control: ordering, receiving deliveries, rotating stock, reducing waste
- Coordinate with front-of-house to ensure smooth service and a great guest experience
- Support and guide the kitchen assistant with prep, cleaning routines and service tasks
- Complete opening/closing kitchen checks and cleaning schedules
What We Are Looking For
- Experience cooking in a professional kitchen (chef or cook role)
- Comfortable taking responsibility for a small kitchen and staying organised
- Strong understanding of food hygiene, allergens and safe working practices
- Reliable, calm under pressure, and able to work at pace
- Pride in consistency, presentation and quality
- A positive, community-minded attitude and willingness to pitch in
- Good organisational skills to oversee inventory control and staff scheduling.
- Ability to work flexibly across shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
Hours and availability
- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Start date: ASAP (or by agreement)
