Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Bar Supervisor / Manager to take ownership of our bar operation. This role is suited to someone with a strong understanding of bar operations, cellar management, and UK licensing legislation, who leads by example and is passionate about delivering outstanding hospitality.
Working closely with the General Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the bar and cellar, ensuring consistently high standards of service, product quality, cleanliness, compliance, and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the daily operation of the bar, ensuring smooth, efficient service at all times.
- Support the General Manager with the management of the bar and cellar, maintaining the highest operational standards.
- Lead, motivate, and supervise the bar team during service.
- Oversee all aspects of bar operations, ensuring speed, consistency, quality, and exceptional customer service.
- Take full responsibility for cellar management, including stock rotation, beer quality, line cleaning schedules, temperature control, and cellar organisation.
- Manage stock levels, complete regular stock takes, place orders, and minimise wastage.
- Ensure full compliance with UK licensing legislation, Challenge 25, health and safety, and company procedures.
- Take ownership of the cleanliness and presentation of the bar, back bar, glass wash area, and cellar, ensuring these areas are maintained to an exceptional standard at all times.
- Ensure all cleaning schedules are completed thoroughly and consistently by the team.
- Train and develop the bar team in service standards, product knowledge, cellar practices, cleanliness, and responsible alcohol retailing.
- Handle customer feedback professionally and resolve issues efficiently.
- Work closely with the General Manager and kitchen team to ensure a seamless guest experience.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Bar Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or Bar Manager in a busy hospitality venue.
- Strong knowledge of bar operations and best practice.
- Excellent understanding of cellar management, including beer quality, stock rotation, line cleaning, and cellar hygiene.
- A clear understanding of UK licensing legislation and responsible alcohol retailing.
- Experience with stock control, ordering, GP management, and reducing wastage.
- High personal standards with exceptional attention to cleanliness, organisation, and presentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Desirable
- Personal Licence Holder (or willing to obtain one).
- Experience using EPOS systems and rota management software.
- Previous experience in a premium pub or food-led hospitality environment.
