Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Academic Standards and Compliance Manager to lead the delivery of quality assurance, academic standards, and regulatory compliance across further and higher education provision.
The successful candidate will provide expert guidance on academic quality, governance, compliance frameworks, and risk management, ensuring that academic processes remain robust, consistent, and aligned with regulatory and awarding body requirements.
This role will act as the operational lead for academic compliance, overseeing quality systems, governance processes, regulatory reporting, and continuous improvement activity across a range of education programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of academic quality assurance processes across further and higher education provision.
- Ensure compliance with awarding organisation requirements, including assessment procedures, internal quality assurance, standardisation, certification, and programme approval processes.
- Monitor regulatory requirements and maintain effective systems to identify, manage, and reduce compliance risks.
- Support preparation for external audits, inspections, reviews, and quality assessments.
- Manage relationships with awarding organisations, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Oversee academic governance processes, ensuring decisions, policies, and procedures are transparent, consistent, and compliant.
- Maintain and review academic regulations, quality frameworks, policies, and operational procedures.
- Lead quality monitoring activity, including reviews, audits, action planning, and improvement tracking.
- Provide specialist advice on academic standards, regulatory expectations, and compliance risks to senior stakeholders.
- Monitor student records, academic decisions, progression processes, and achievement data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Support regulatory submissions, reporting requirements, and performance monitoring activities.
- Ensure compliance across partnership and collaborative delivery arrangements.
- Oversee processes relating to academic appeals, misconduct, mitigating circumstances, and reasonable adjustments.
- Develop and maintain effective quality assurance processes for apprenticeship provision, including internal quality assurance records and audit readiness.
- Analyse compliance data, identify trends, and produce reports highlighting risks, improvements, and areas requiring action.
Skills and Experience Required
- Significant experience working within academic quality assurance, compliance, governance, or registry functions within further or higher education.
- Strong understanding of awarding body requirements and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience supporting external audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
- Knowledge of academic governance structures and quality assurance processes.
- Experience managing compliance risks and implementing improvement plans.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate requirements into effective operational processes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to review data, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence colleagues at all levels.
- Experience working with external organisations, awarding bodies, or education partners.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Relevant professional experience in education quality, compliance, administration, or leadership.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- A postgraduate qualification or specialist qualification in education quality, governance, or leadership would be desirable.
