This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving Science department with a strong track record of student achievement and excellent outcomes. The successful candidate will have responsibility for organising and maintaining the College’s Science laboratories, microbiology stocks, and associated equipment, whilst also supporting the maintenance and management of specialist equipment and resources used within the Health and Childcare curriculum areas.
The role includes preparing materials, chemicals, equipment, and resources for practical teaching sessions across Applied Science programmes, as well as ensuring that Health and Childcare equipment is maintained, serviced, and readily available to support high-quality teaching and learning. You will provide technical support to both staff and students, including guidance on the safe use and operation of equipment where required.
A key aspect of the role is ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements through the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of risk assessments within practical learning environments. The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining safe working practices, managing stocks and consumables, and ensuring equipment is fit for purpose.
The successful candidate will provide essential support to teaching staff and managers across the Science, Health, and Childcare provision. You will need to be flexible, organised, and proactive, with knowledge of materials preparation, experiment setup, and equipment maintenance, together with a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
The role carries responsibility for the day-to-day management of departmental ordering, expenditure, and budget monitoring across Science, Health, and Childcare, using the College finance system (full training will be provided). Knowledge of CLEAPSS, COSHH regulations, microbiological stock management, and laboratory health and safety procedures would be advantageous.
