About the role
The Active Communities Officer will contribute to the development, coordination and delivery of high-quality sports and physical activity programmes, projects and initiatives that increase and sustain participation, particularly amongst under-represented and under-served communities.
The purpose of this role is to ensure that programmes are inclusive, fair and provide equitable access for all, whilst supporting Active Luton's strategic objectives. The Active Communities Officer will work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to promote the benefits of sport and physical activity in improving health, wellbeing and community cohesion.
What you’ll be doing
- Plan, develop and deliver high-quality community outreach sports and physical activity programmes
- Plan and deliver inclusive coaching and activity sessions within a range of community
- settings, schools and Active Luton facilities.
- Undertake research, consultation, monitoring and evaluation activities to inform service
- planning and contribute to Directorate Delivery Plans and team action plans.
- Support the supervision of staff and volunteers involved in outreach programmes and
- projects, ensuring safe and effective delivery.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with community groups, schools, partner organisations and other stakeholders to identify opportunities and respond to local needs.
- Assist in the promotion and marketing of outreach programmes to increase awareness, participation and engagement.
- Carry out all administrative duties associated with the role, including maintaining accurate records, monitoring programme budgets and contributing to financial and performance reports.
- Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, equality and data protection requirements are fully adhered to in all areas of work.
What we’re looking for
- Current Level 2 qualification in Sports Coaching, Activity Leadership or equivalent
- First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain immediately
- Experience of project management
- Experience of community outreach work
- Experience of planning and delivering high-quality sports or physical activity sessions
- Demonstrable knowledge of current developments, trends and legislation in relation to sports and physical activity and wider relevant national programmes, policies and practices including Safeguarding and Health and Safety
- Ability to analyse usage, performance and financial data, produce clear delivery plans and reports, and recommend adaptations to ensure services meet national and local needs.
- Ability to build positive relationships with diverse communities
- Ability to work outside of normal hours (approx. 2-3 times per week)
- Ability to attend Active Luton sites and community venues throughout the Borough (daily)
